Xiaomi's new attempt to capture the market is quite interesting. Xiaomi recently announced a new Mi series phone that was expected to be the Poco F1's relaunch. But the official announcement confirmed that it would be a totally different series in the budget category. It was announced in China on December 24th named as the Mi Play. Let's have a look at it.

Design & display:

Xiaomi finally has removed its boring metal design panels from the back side with the new Mi Play. It now has a new and attractive, glossy, gradiant finished glass panels on the rear side. In the front side, it has a 5.84 inch Full HD+ display (IPS LCD) with 1080x2280 resolution. It has a small notch on top of the screen like the Vivo V11 Pro and this is the first Xiaomi has introduced such a small notch in any of their phones. We have seen the Mi Mix 3 with no notch full screen display but the notched phones were using bigger notches than this one. The display has a pixel density of 432 PPI with 19:9 aspect ratio. The display is compact and handy with its smaller form factor.

Performance:

As a budget gaming phone, Xiaomi has launched its Mi Play with a balanced processor packed with AI and speed. Its the latest launch of MediaTek named the MediaTek helio P35. It's a 12nm octa core based chipset clocked at 2.3 GHz. It's comparable to Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 632's performance. The graphics section will be handled by the IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU. In the software section, the Xiaomi Mi Play has Android Oreo based MIUI 10 skin in it that provides the users smooth UI experience with some great option of customisation.

Cameras:

Being a budget device, Xiaomi didn't include big numbers in the camera section of the Mi Play. The rear side has a dual camera setup with a 12 MP main sensor (f/2.2 aperture) and a 2 MP depth sensor. In the front side it has an 8 MP selfie shooter. The device has average type of cameras which are quite appealing in the category. A moderate camera user who wants a gaming smartphone in that budget would definitely be satisfied with the camera module of the new Xiaomi Mi Play. The rear camera module will also have 4k video recording support with EIS option.

Variants & pricing:

Xiaomi Mi Play has been launched in China with only one variant for now, which is the 4GB ram variant with 64 GB storage option. It is priced at CNY 1,099 (approx 11,200/- INR) and will available for sale from the Christmas day. The brand can also launch another ram/rom variants of the phone in upcoming days, some leaks suggest. The colour options for the phone will be Black, Dream Blue and Twilight Gold.

Battery and others:

As a gaming device, the Mi Play doesn't have enough battery to carry on for the whole day, we must say. It comes with only 3000 maH battery that isn't sufficient to give power to a Full HD+ screen for the whole day. The connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 4.2, 3.5mm audio jack, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port with 10W charging option.
The new series by Xiaomi can provide better looks to the consumer's smartphones. And the price for the 4/64 GB variant is out of the boundary. Xiaomi can definitely make a comeback with these type of smartphones. Tell us what do you think about the new smartphone from Xiaomi. Do comment your views.
