Realme has been most immersive smartphone brand of 2018. Well this is the sub brand of Oppo but has done relatively better than its parent brand. While Oppo has been targeted the higher end premium smartphones, Realme is aggresively working with the budget and mid-range category smartphones. Recently it launched its budget range selfie centric smartphone, Realme U1 in India. The specs and pricing are quite impressive.

Design & Display:

Seriously, Realme devices have been one of the most beautiful looking smartphones of 2018 in the mid-range segment. All the devices have premium looking rear design. Though they still are using polycarbonate to make the bodies of the phone. This is also not an exception. It has a 6.3 inch notched Full HD+ IPS LCD panel in front side with Corning Gorilla Glasslass 3 protection. Thankfully, the notch will not bother you too much as it is a very small waterdrop notch, same as the Realme 2 Pro. The resolution of the display is 1080x2340 pixels with 409 PPI pixel density and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Basically, you are going to find it tough to recognise it between Realme U1 and Realme 2 Pro until you turn the phone and check the backside of it.

Performance:

Realme, from the start, has been very aggresive with the performance segment of their phones. They have provided most value for money chipsets in their respective segments. In the Realme U1, they have gone one step ahead and brought it with the chipset from MediaTek's newest launch, the helio P70. It is an upgrade to the helio P60 which was used in the Realme 1. The helio P70 has better AI capabilities than its predecessor. It is an octa core based chipset made in 12 nm process. The maximum clock speed for the helio P70 is 2.1 GHz. The graphics is also impressive with the Mali-G72 GPU support. Inspite of exceptional hardwares, Realme face criticism from the start because of their software. As it comes with the Color OS support. The Realme U1 has the 5.2 version of it based on Android 8.1 Oreo. Still no Android Pie support. Realme currently is working its new UI and may launch it very soon. Till then we have to wait for the better experience.

Cameras:

The Realme U1 is the first selfie centric phone from the brand. It has a 25 MP AI enabled selfie camera in it. It is the one of its highlights. In the rear side it has a dual camera setup with a 13 MP main sensor of f/2.2 aperture and a 2 MP depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture. Well the rear camera combination doesn't seem too much impressive as the front one but we also have to look at the price.

Variants and pricing:

Realme U1 will be a lower budget range smartphone with 3/32 GB or 4/64 ram and rom variants. The pricing for the them is set at 11,999/- INR and 14,499/- INR. The colour variants of the phone are Fiery Gold, Black and Brave Blue.

Battery and others:

Realme doesn't have a track record of giving big batteries in the higher variants. They always use average type of batteries for their phones. This also has a 3500 maH battery with 10W charging support via the micro USB port. Till now in the end of 2018 they haven't go with the type C port in at least one of their smartphones. The others specs remains same with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, WiFi Direct, hotspot Bluetooth 4.2, as the helio P70 hasn't the latest Bluetooth 5.0 support.

After all the specs, the Realme U1 looks like a perfect balanced smartphone that has a good selfie camera, decent rear cameras, a power-packed AI processor in a decent pricing. All it needs is a good UI for the users to experience. They definitely need to do some work with the Colour OS as this has been the most common con for their each and every phone.
